Standard Wedding Vows
While you are allowed to incorporate your Own Wedding Vows, if you choose not to, we have compiled the standard wedding vows/script that is normally exchanged during the wedding ceremony.
Depending on the type of ceremony you are having, religious symbolic, or civil, and depending on the officiate, the wording may differ, but typically, below is the standard standard script.
OFFICIATE OPENING REMARKS
We are gathered together here in the sight of God and in the presence of these witnesses in the bonds of holy matrimony which is commended to be honorable above all things, it is into this holy estate that these two persons now come to be joined together. If anyone present can show any just cause why they may not be joined together, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.
Who gives this woman to be married to this man?
QUESTION OF INTENT
(asked individually to the couple by the Officiant) - will you have this woman whom you
now hold by the hand as your lawful wedded wife/husband, to live together in the estate
of matrimony? Will you love him/her, honor him/her, comfort him/her, and keep him/her
in sickness and in health, forsaking all others for long as you both shall love?
( individually each person answers appropriately, I do/I will)
THE RING
Please join hands and repeat (instructed individually to the couple by the Officiant to
repeat) I ( BRIDE) take you (GROOM) as my lawfully wedded husband/wife, to have and to
hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness
and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, and to this, I pledge my love,
my faithfulness and my devotion.
OFFICIATE CLOSING REMARKS
For as much as you BRIDE/GROOM having consented together in wedlock, and have
witnessed the same before God and in the presence of family and friends, and have
declared same by the giving and receiving of rings and by joining of hands.
Therefore by the power invested in me for the Island of Jamaica, I now pronounce
you legally married, husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride.
