Our Story

HOW WE MET - Alecia  & Marcus

We met October 26, 2002 at Dunn’s River Fall. I had to purchase climbing shoes. While I was trying on shoes and trying to decide on a pair, Marcus came over and sat down beside me. He started a conversation by asking if I was climbing the fall and if this was my first time. I answered with a sarcastic reply ‘yes, that is what I am here for not to just look’. He just smiled. Then he asked if I would need a guide and I replied do I need one. He said if you want. I was being sarcastic and said okay you be my guide. Marcus walked away.

I purchased the shoes and met my friend Karmen so we could climb the fall. As Karmen and I were joining the group to climb the fall, Marcus appeared and took my hand. He started out with us climbing the fall, but he left because he was working. He continued to appear and disappear throughout the climb. Near the halfway mark I decided I could not go any further. Marcus appeared out of nowhere as if he had read my mind. He took my hand and said come with me. I took his hand and followed. (I was scared). We reached the point under a bridge and Marcus told me to stand up. I would not because I was afraid of bumping my head or falling. (I have a fear of heights) Marcus said “Do you trust me?” I replied “NO! I don’t know you like that.” Marcus said “Listen. Trust me you are special to me and I won’t let anything happen to you.” I answered very sharply “How many women have you told that line to today.” He said only you because I do normally talk to tourist. I said yea right. He helped me climb the fall until I could not go any further. When Karmen and I were ready to leave I needed to get my camera from the original guide, Marcus left and the next thing I knew he had return with my camera. (I don’t know how he recognized my camera from all the others my name was not on it) Before leaving we exchanged numbers and addresses.

After I returned to the US, I did not contact Marcus, but he had tried contacting me several times. Finally, Christmas of 2002 I decided to return his call and say Merry Christmas. The rest is a more chapters to our book…

The Engagement: March 11, 2007

I was visiting Marcus and had told him I was going shopping for some jewelry for a birthday gift to myself. He asked what type jewelry. I said another birthstone ring. He kept insisting that I did not go without him. Well, I did not understand because I had been to Jamaica and shopped alone many times. On March 10th I decided that I could not wait on him any longer, I called him and said I am going shopping. He said I am on my way. He called me three times to make sure I had not bought any jewelry yet.

Marcus left work and rushed to the store. I showed him the rings I was thinking about purchasing. He asked which one I liked the most. I showed him the two I really liked. Since the salesperson would not bargain with me on the one I truly wanted, I said choice number two. We begin to argue in the store because Marcus and I both were trying to pay for the ring. He won. When the salesperson asked which finger did I need it size for I replied for my right hand. But Marcus said no the other hand. I started getting suspicious. I later asked him why he wanted to buy that ring. He said because you liked it and you wanted it. We returned to the resort after shopping.

The next morning before dawn Marcus woke me up and asked where I put the ring. I told him. He took the ring and my hand and said “This must never come off because we are going to get married”. I said “Whatever” and went back to sleep. Later that morning I was talking to my best friend via phone. Marcus talked to her also. When he returned the phone, she said okay when the big day is. I said what big day. She said Marcus gave you the ring and he said the big day will be when you shoot the shot. I said that is not an engagement ring. She laughed.

A week later I was home and Marcus called me. He said “Did you tell your mom that you are engaged.” I answered “I am? When did that happen?” He said “When I woke you up and put the ring on your finger and said this must never come off because we are getting married. We called my mother later that day and told her the good news.

Our Wedding - July 26, 2008

THe ceremony -

Our wedding will be the beautiful and eventful. It will take place on a private beach in Ocho Rios with our closest family and friends. Since Marcus and I do not like big crowds and we are not true traditionalists. (Hint the proposal) The wedding colors are orange (his favorite) and purple (my favorite) with a hint of blue (my mom’s favorite). We are incorporating things to celebrate my mother’s 60th birthday.

The aisle will be conch shells place beside the chairs which will have orange and purple tie backs. The mini reception décor and cake will be blue. The music will be a mixture of R&B and Reggae. This will be a fun event because I like to be spontaneous at times.

The Bride will be wearing an Alfred Angelo Dream in Color gown and the Groom will be wearing a cream Italian suit. We will be doing a “Trash the Dress” photo shoot prior to the wedding. (I order my dress and received the incorrect dress. After disputing my order with the seller, I was given the dress for free.)

THe RECEPTION -  The reception/family dinner will be held at Bibibips Restaurant. This will be hosted by Malcolm (the bestman) and Debbie (groom’s sister).
