About Us

The Bride  -Penny Tubbs a graduate of the University of Kansas lived in Lawrence, Kansas for 33 years. She was widowed in 1999 after 23 years of marriage.  She retired from teaching in both the public and private sectors and now has a travel agency, A+ Travel. She has three daughters, three step children and seven step-grandchildren.    Her passion is traveling and dancing with her soul mate --- Gary.

 

The Groom -Gary Johnson is an Iowa farm boy who received his B.A. from the University of Iowa, and his M.B.A from St Edwards University.  He loved his career in the Air Force but retired after 20 years to pursue investing in real estate.  He still owns 21 rental homes. He has lived in Arlington, TX for the past 23 years.  Gary has two children and four grandchildren. He loves dancing, traveling and romancing his Penny. 

 

Our Story-  They met February 16, 2001, in a cloud of dust, at a Valentine’s dance in Lawrence, Kansas.  After 16 years of dating, Gary had given up finding his special someone.   Penny thought it was safe to give Gary her phone number because they were on the dance floor where he had no way to write it down.   Although it was not love at first sight, they both found something intriguing about the other and wanted to learn more.   Thus began a long distance relationship that has grown for more than seven years.  

 

The Engagement-  They took Penny’s two youngest daughters to France and Italy for a two week vacation.   Gary proposed to Penny exactly 15 months after they had met, at Le Manior Les Minimes a romantic portion of the Amboise Castle in the Loire Valley of France.   As a teacher of art, the castle that is said to be the resting place of Leonardo Da Vinci was a memorable place to begin a new life with Gary.  The next morning, Penny’s daughters couldn’t keep their eyes off her beautiful ring. 

 

 

The Wedding Ceremony  & Reception-They will be married in a quaint beachfront  chapel in beautiful Ocho Rios, Jamaica surrounded by our loving family members and friends.   The reception will be in a beautiful tropical garden featuring Jamaican specialty foods.  The wedding colors of burgundy, light blue and white will be reflected in the tropical flowers and other festive touches specially prepared by Almarie of Tropical Weddings Jamaica.  This day is to be the highlight of a five day cruise on the Carnival Destiny.  It was destiny that brought us together and Destiny will bring us to Jamaica to begin our life together.

 

Wedding Party-

The Bride’s attendants are Shauna, Jessica and Haylee Tubbs, the daughters of the bride.

The Best Man is Gary’s son, Barry Johnson and the two Groomsmen are his best friends Roger Carroll & Charlie Kirkpatrick.

Gary’s two youngest grandchildren Chloe  Johnson will be the flower girl and Niko Johnson the ring bearer.

 

Honeymoon-Every day we are together is a honeymoon.  We will continue to travel, travel, travel, possibly a cruise to Australia and throughout the South Pacific.   But for now, we are both very excited and content to host our families and friends on this destination wedding cruise.
